28 Feb-8 Mar: AV 08 Festival at the Star and Shadow Cinema
As part of the excellent AV 08 festival, we are holding a series of events: discussions with artists and curators, screenings of documentaries, films, and even TV series.
AV Festival is an international festival of electronic arts featuring visual art, music and moving image. A biennial event, the festival takes place in Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland and Middlesbrough between 28 February – 8 March 2008 and has the theme of "Broadcast".

FILM: Network (1977, Dir. Sydney Lumet)
Media madness reigns supreme in this scathing satire of network television. With multi-awarded acting performances from Faye Dunaway and main character Peter Finch.
Fri 29 Feb, 7.30pm
Exhibition Opening + Gig: "An effective/deadly chop severs the connection..." + BARK!
Investigating the concept of broadcast and the breakdown of production, Little Chops, a Newcastle based arts collective, explore elements of the theme of AV08 through various mixed media and multi-media experiments. Tonight we will have a special party to open the exhibition, with a gig from BARK!

Discussion, Event and Screenings: Broadcast Yourself — In Person and on Screen
Discussion with the co-curators of the Broadcast Yourself exhibition, with several artists, and screening of several documentaries and a feature film: The Truman Show.

Double-bill screening exploring community radio in Nepal and Brazil. Screening introduced by a representative from NE1fm, a community radio in Newcastle.

TV Series: The Prisoner
This special late-night screening shows two episodes of one of Britain’s most iconic cult dramas of the 1960s.
