Subsonics: Avant-Garde Music Films From Australia (2003)

SUBSONICS was a documentary series about experimental music that was produced in 2003 for Australian TV channel SBS. Under the editorial eye of musician Oren Ambarchi, it traced an arc from the classical avant-garde of the '50s through to today's laptop generation. Made on a budget of £400 per episode and edited on iMovie, the series featured such key figures as Masonna, Sun Ra, Faust, Harry Partch and Phill Niblock. More »

To shoot an Elephant , a film by Alberto Arce and Mohammed Rujaila, is an eyewitness account from the Gaza strip during the Israeli embargo. The film shot between December 25 2008 and Jan 16 2009, 21 days of urgent, insomniac dirty shuddering images from the only foreigners who decided and managed to stay in Gaza, embedded with the ambulance workers who pick up the wounded and dead from the streets. The film takes its title form an essay by George Orwell denouncing colonial politics. More »
