In 2009, Reel Festivals organised the first major festival of Iraqi culture from Babylon to the present day in the UK. And we’re back…

Marking 10 years since the invasion of Iraq, Reel Iraq 2013 aims to shine a light on the conflict by celebrating the resilience and diversity of the art and culture of Iraq. It will explore the contribution of art, culture and creativity to Iraqi life in conflict – encouraging debate and discussion of what has, and hasn’t, happened over the last decade.

The festival will take place in cities throughout the UK in March 2013 with satellite events planned in in other countries.www.reelfestivals.orgFilms:Broken Record (2012) Special preview screening of Parine Jaddo's feature length piece, a poetic journey through Iraq in search of a Turkman song her mother used to sing.Cassette (2012), shortA subtle, non-narrative work exploring recent history through audio tapes.Sing your Song (2012) shortA short documentary by Omar Falah, following musicians struggling under restricitve clamp downs on culture.  As one  musican wryly puts it: "it's not normal with regards to art here".
