A Glimpse Of Paradise  presents

A Scottish referendum special!

JESSE RAE

(WEA / COLUMBIA RECORDS / SCOTLAND)

Jesse Rae is a cult singer, songwriter and performer/producer from St Boswells, Berwickshire. An unashamed champion of Scottish culture and independence, Rae is best known for his idiosyncratic brand of Caledonian funk music, best characterised and exemplified through in his 1985 hit 'Over The Sea'. He has written for the likes of Odyssey and The Human League and is famed for his trademark kilted, helmeted and claymore-brandishing Scottish regalia.

Rae moved from Scotland to the US in the 70s and through working in Cleveland and Los Angeles studios, became acquainted with several leading soul artists, including Bernie Worrell and Michael Hampton from the Funkadelic / Parliament enclave. Back in the UK, Rae was unable to secure a deal but his debut single, ‘D.E.S.I.R.E’ was released through the Miami-based TK Organization.

In 1981 he worked with Worrell again as part of the eccentric P-Funk offshoot Space Cadets, and the following year Rae’s excellent composition, ‘Inside Out’, was a major Top 5 hit for Odyssey.

Since releasing his album 'The Thistle' in 1987, Jesse has worked alongside the likes of Adam Ant, has been covered by the likes of Aztec Camera's Roddy Frame and has continued to focus on his own unique, outsider music and videos productions, as well as standing for Scottish Parliament as an independent candidate in the Scottish Borders.

Jesse will be backed by his newly formed group Project Rae on what promises to be a very interesting and out there night!
