Our Friends
Newcastle has a vibrant and ever-growing network of community and artistic organisations, many of which are connected to The Star And Shadow Cinema in some way. Many companies and individuals have also helped us to build the cinema, and to get the project to its current state. Here's a list of some of our friends, and people who have helped us along the way.
Friends
North-East storytellers, A Bit Crack meet regularly at the cinema
All are welcome. There are guest storytellers and always an opportunity for voices from the floor.
Film Bee
A collective of celluloid loving film makers, Film Bee get their hands covered in chemicals and spend hours splicing scraps of film together - as well as a fair bit of digital interaction to make their masterpieces. The collective is building a darkroom at the cinema and is open to suggestions for new filmmaking adventures. Contact them by email filmbee(at)gmail.com
Mobile Cinema
The Mobile Cinema is an independent nomadic venue, distinctly removed from the 'black box' or 'white cube' neutral gallery or cinema. As a 1970's Sprite caravan it epitomises the freedom to roam and explore new places and new ideas. The Mobile Cinema is a low-tech/hi-tech space where the public can easily access and experience moving image, sound and installation art, close up in the comfort of the caravan.
The Projectile Collective
The second and third Projectile anarchist film festivals were held at The Star And Shadow Cinema, and they're planning to hold the next one here too, in May 2008.
Platform North East
An informal organisation supporting the work of artists working with Live Art who are based in the North East of England. Platform North East has an office in the cottage (behind the cinema) and puts on events in the cinema - an annual event every Autumn showcasing new work and informal events through the year.
Polytechnic
Polytechnic is developing a resource and workshops for artists and other creative types to use open source technologies in creative ways, expand their skills and show them to the public in events such as Datarama (Feb 06) in the cinema. Polytechnic share the cottage with Platform North East as their base.

YOUR HELP NEEDED
They have had a few problems with the Council recenlty and are being threatened to close - they need financial (donations, amazing CDs to buy...) and moral (petitions) support - visit their website to find out more.
Thanks To
International Protective Coatings
It is quite probable we have the toughest floors of any cinema in the world. A fact of which we are very proud!
International Protective Coatings generously donated paint and the Star and Shadow has been given a grant of £5000 from Akzo Nobel's community projects fund.
This kind of support and encouragement means very much to the cinema. So thank you very much to the company and especially James Irving, Tiphaine Guillard and Ana Collado.
