For the last six years the Star and Shadow has been a magnet for Newcastle’s independent film-makers, bringing creative people together to make film happen.

Now for the first time the Star and Shadow will host a screening showcasing the work of its in-house studio.

The studio’s output encompasses diverse styles and approaches, but all involved are committed to collaborative, creative film-making that pushes the boundaries of film practice.

The event will see a range of the work created within the studio, ranging from documentaries to dramas and experimental films, including:

Project Film Noir (2012) (dir. Arto Polus)

This stylish spoof shot in Byker and Ouseburn Valley subverts the Hollywood genre. Featuring guns, excessive swearing and gangsters on pushbikes. HD.

In this documentary shot at Steetly Magnesite Works in Hartlepool, the voices of the ex-workers form a strange industrial parable. HD.

Every Trick in the Book (2011) (dir Deborah Bower, Mat Fleming, Harriet Plewis)

Commissioned by Berwick Film and Media Arts Festival, the directors turned to an old manual of trick cinematography in this film which defies categorisation. Film transfer.
