At the general election of 1945 the expectation was that the Conservative Party would thrash Labour because Churchill's government had won the war. But instead Clement Atlee's Labour Party won a landslide and their government - in line with an egalitarian spirit suddently felt across the country - got to work founding the NHS, the welfare state Nationalised industries, public housing and so on. In this film Ken Loach, one of Britian's greatest directors, looks at this period and also asks what happened to that feeling of unity and optimism?

Potentially a timely film while we ponder a contemporary turning point and wonder what our future holds.

The film will start promptly at 7pm to make time to be followed by a discussion.
