A warm up to our AV 08 festival programme! Media madness reigns supreme in this scathing satire of network television.

An excellent film to warm up to the AV 08 festival...

Media madness reigns supreme in this scathing satire of network television. A veteran network anchorman is fired because of low ratings - his response is announcing he'll kill himself on live television two weeks hence. What follows is the anchorman's descent into insanity, during which he fervently rages against the medium that made him a celebrity...

The awards

4 Oscars, among which Best Actor for Peter Finch, and Best Actress for the always perfect Faye Dunaway, and Best Screenplay.

4 Golden Globes: Best Director, Best Actor for Peter Finch, Best Actress for Faye Dunaway, and Best Screenplay.

The reviews

"Outrageous...brilliantly, cruelly funny, a topical American comedy" - New York Times, 1976

"Supremely well-acted, intelligent film that tries for too much, that attacks not only television but also most of the other ills of the 1970s," though "what it does accomplish is done so well, is seen so sharply, is presented so unforgivingly, that Network will outlive a lot of tidier movies" - American film critic Roger Ebert, 1976

Starring Faye Dunaway, Robert Duvall, Peter Finch and William Holden.
