(The Lives Of Others)

The director's first movie and it won the Oscar for best foreign language film this year. Set in East Berlin in the 1980s where the Stasi secret police insinuate themselves in every aspect of life. The film follows a secret agent on a mission into Bohemia which changes him.

Apparently it avoids the nostaligia of cheap comedy that plagues movies about the pre-cold war East, and it's being hailed as the best German film in ages. Could it possible be better than Herzog's The Wild Blue Yonder?
