In exclusivity at the Star and Shadow cinema, and as part of a limited tour, we will be showing Saint Etienne's new film, This Is Tomorrow.

This Is Tomorrow.newFrom 2006 to 2007, the band Saint Etienne were invited as artists in residency at the Royal festival Hall, London. They were asked to make a documentary into the rebuilding of the venue, that finally re-opened in June 2007. The documentary is This Is Tomorrow, that premiered at This Is Tomorrow.new.2the re-opening gala of the Royal festival Hall last summer.

The Royal Festival Hall was created with modernist hope at the centre of the 1951 Festival of Britain site. The film links the optimism and primary colours of the 1951 Festival with the re-opening in June 2007 of the Royal Festival This Is Tomorrow.new.3Hall, a very inspiring building.

Soundtracked by Saint Etienne, who performed their score live at the film's premiere on 29th June 2007, it is a journey into the past and the future of an internationally renowned and much loved architectural space and its epic refurbishment. It celebrates the people, ideals and design embodied in this popular building.

The BBC wrote: "The film (...) lingers on the unconventional beauty of this concrete and glass structure on the Thames, as it moves through the subtle, seasonal shifts in light, weather, and rhythms of London's riverside."

This Is Tomorrow is also shown on Friday 18 January at 7.30pm, in the presence of two members of the band and the director. On Friday, the film will be followed by a DJ session with members of the band until midnight.
