Finally! An awesome Indian film whips its way into the Star and Shadow programme.

A truly spectacular film kicks off our (hopefully) regular INDIAN FILM NIGHT. Sholay 1975 was directed by Ramesh Sippy and is an absolute classic, a massive hit at the time around the world.

Sholay is a fantastic combination of action, thriller and romance. The film, inspired by the likes of Sergio Leone's Spaghetti westerns, follows two small time crooks working for an ex-policeman to capture a bandit who terrorised his family and whole villages.  It was declared by BBC India as film of the Millenium. It is in the British Film Institute's top 10 Indian films of all time. What else needs to be said? If you want to see cinema at its best, get yourself down to the Star and Shadow for this screening!

This is one of the great, epic productions in cinema history. This film is so great it was still doing the rounds in the Indian cinemas for 5 years after its release date!

If that's not enough yesterday I popped down to our local (ex) post office in search of biscuits and happened to mention the screening to the owner. She was over the moon that we are screening this film. In fact she said it was as great and as epic as Gone with the Wind! FACT!
