“I started to discern great import within it, without understanding how or why … it can amount to a species of sound-tape poetry - it's that compelling… noise makers and tape artists who actually want to communicate something!”

Ed Pinsent, /Sound Projector./

MARK VERNON, BARRY BURNS, LUKE FOWLER AND JOHN W. FAIL

This is the return of Glaswegian sound artists MARK VERNON and BARRY BURNS in collaboration with fellow Glasgwegian artist LUKE FOWLER and American-born Helsinki-based multi-disciplinarian JOHN W FAIL.

Last surfacing on the 2006 LP "Lied Music vs. Boy-Band Tax Returns" (Ultra Eczema), this collaboration merges musique concrete compositional approaches with absurdist improvisation strategies. Their forthcoming LP, "Lost Lake", showcases their tendencies towards primitive melodies with dissonant underbellies -- all carefully sculpted into nearly-narrative explanations.

Acclaimed artist Luke Fowler is the winner of the 2008 Jarman award for artist-filmmakers and many will remember him from his film Pilgrimage From Scattered Points which focused on Cornelius Cardew and his Scratch Orchestra. He has also recently collaborated with Alasdair Roberts at Rotterdam and AURORA.

These 4 hardly ever get together, it would seem. Catch them while they're standing almost-still in the same room.

+ ANT MACARI & OLIVIER BECK, AND SUSIE GREEN

They'll be backed up by Ant Macari & Oliver Beck as well as Susie Green showing us her be-yew-ti-ful 'Visions of Hildegard': a live performance with digital stop frame animation and recorded soundtrack, inspired by her knowledge of the drawings and visions of Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179) Carl the Organist will also be on hand to tickle the plastic in-between-time.

But perhaps not quite as you know it.

A treat.
