ABOUT THE FILM:

The bohemian life of artist and writer Tove Jansson is wondrously brought to life in this timely and moving biopic. Exploring her early career in Helsinki. Painter Tove Jansson (Alma Pöysti), although focusing on her painting career, soon finds the enchanting tales of the Moomin creatures she told to children in bomb shelters rapidly take on a life of their own, bringing international fame and what she feels is freedom. But her desire for liberty is put to the test, when she meets theatre director Vivica Bandler (Krista Kosonen) who ignites an electric and all-consuming love in her. While she begins to find her artistic identity, she discovers that true love is far more complex.

​​Tove Jansson is without a doubt one of the best Finnish artists of all time and also the most widely read Finnish author abroad. Her lifework is of immeasurable value because of the success she made as a writer, artist and cartoonist. She was a multi-talented artist who is mostly remembered as the creator of the Moomins. The Moomin books have been translated into over fifty languages. In addition to the Moomin books and comics, Tove Jansson also received recognition for her short stories and novels for both children and adults.
