A gay Chinese-American woman, Wil, struggles with whether to tell her mother about her sexuality after she begins a new relationship. But her mum has her own secret, which she partially reveals to Wil after unexpectedly moving in with her. She's pregnant, and rather than reveal the father's identity, she embarks on a series of dates to try to find a suitable husband. As Criterion puts it, this uplifting film is "a bighearted ode to the Chinese American diaspora, and the liberating joy of living one’s truth."
