Doxology presents 96 Back at Star & Shadow on 20th January.
After the cathartic, emotionally charged dedox of Jennifer Walton and co, we return to our dysregulated scheduled deprogramming for the new year. You’ve already bathed in tears – we’ve resolved to drench you in sweat for this one.
96 Back administers Doxology’s latest dose of granular synthetics, following aya and Jenny as the final member of Microplastics to grace our roster. He’s prodigiously prolific, releasing on labels like SVBKVLT and Local Action, collaborating with artists including Iceboy Violet, LINTD and Martyn Bootyspoon, and regularly appearing at festivals such as Sheffield’s No Bounds. A musical polymath, 96 Back’s output is a sequence of painstakingly crafted love letters to the many mutations of the hardcore continuum, reimagined with the detailed production typical of IDM or deconstructed club.
His forthcoming album, which he’ll be performing live at Doxology, (re)fuses sinewy hardstyle rephlexes with Enter Shikari’s overexposed screamolectronics, recalibrating these de/components into a long-live-the-new-flesh-mesh. Torrents of Death Grips digiphemera flood this cell-scape of dance-punk heart-attacks, tempered by a bleak chorus of chromeatose zomby-fied metalheadz intoning drowned cyberpunk (J.G.) ballads.
You were granted a tender exit from 2025. Now, come be baptised in a ravestorm of brutal (b)raindance (b)raindrop breaks (amen). Mosh your skins away.
Be reborn in 2096.
