Back by popular demand - a unique, fun, and welcoming 5 a-side football tournament that takes place from the Multi-Use-Games-Area (M.U.G.A.) in the heart of Shieldfield.
The idea is simple - bring together a broad range of people who live or work in the neighbourhood through the awesome power of kicking a ball about. GOAL!
It's not about winning - it’s the collective joy that counts!
Whether you are a footballing maestro or novice, old or young, whatever gender, ethnicity or background, whether you would like to play, organise, watch, or cheer - all are welcome!
Entry is FREE, teams are organised on the day, and everybody gets a game. For maximum fun we recommend mixing up your team with a range of ages, genders and abilities – and perhaps with people you do net know!
Get Involved
The Shieldfield Community Cup is a playful opportunity to celebrate all that is 'mint' within Shieldfield - and you can get involved in a number of ways:
PLAY: If you would like to play, please arrive by 12.30pm to register. We recommend mixing up the teams with a range of ages, genders and abilities!
CHEER: If you would like to support the event, but are unable to play, then we invite you to cheer on your favourite team from the sidelines.
VOLUNTEER: If you’d like to support the event organisers with one of the many tasks on the day you can do so via the following routes:
1. Sign up on the Star and Shadow Volunteer rota
2. Attend a volunteer briefing at The NewBridge Project, Thursday 2nd July, 17:30
3. Let yourself known on arrival on the day.
Background
In May 2019 we held the 1st Shieldfield Community Cup. Ten teams popped up on the day, a huge range in age and ability, and about 100 spectators came out to watch, some bearing cakes… it was a fantastic event and many people said:
“When are ye doing this again, it’s been reet canny!”
Now 2026, and our 8th event, and and we are still going strong!
This year, The Shieldfield Community Chefs with support from Dwellbeing Shieldfield and the Forum Cafe will provide warm food and refreshments on the day.
So, whether you are dusting off your boots or rustling up some chants to cheer on the players we look forward to seeing you there - and remember - have fun, take part, divn't gan daft!
