UNMAKING THE GROUND is an ongoing series of making/disrupting/unmaking interventions across Newbridge Project, Newcastle City Centre and Star and Shadow Cinema by artists Dawn Felicia Knox and Marek Gabrysch

THE TYNESIDE SOUND SOCIETY will take over BELOW THE MADE GROUND - the sonic field created by Marek Gabrysch with recordings made during the record-a-thon (1/2/20 at Newbridge Project). The internal rumblings of the city will take over the 8 channel sound scape to crash and undo the working of time and place.

For the last few years Dawn and Marek have been documenting and recording the sounds and sights of the old Star & Shadow Cinema on Stepney Bank, as the gradual demolition of the building takes place. Armed with cameras, contact mics and an array of ambisonic devices they've captured archeology digs; building surveys, boreholes and the steady reveal of the layers of time below its foundations.

They'll be presenting a live multi channel, surround sound mixdown of sonic fields and sculptural unearthings recorded across the previous venue's ongoing demolition. The mix will also include sounds recorded across the city by participants in the previous week's Tyneside Sound Society Record-A-Thon and Contact mic workshop.
